D.L. Bliss state park hosts a large campground (150 campsites). I’ve been in the area several times and I personally did not want to stay there. It's pretty packed and a majority of the campsites don’t have a good view. But there are a few nice trails which start from the campground and beach. I highly recommend Rubicon Point Lighthouse trail. It is a looped path about two miles long with stunning lake views and shady forest passages. And you do not have travel to Scandinavia to see the trolls! Here they are:
The historic lighthouse is, in fact, a small wooden shed, oftentimes mistaken for an outhouse, but nevertheless it is the highest lighthouse in the world, built around 1916 at an elevation of 6,580 ft. It operated for a very short time, only about 3 years, because of difficulties in getting supplies.
Anyway, the trail itself is very spectacular and not too difficult for any fitness level. After you come back from the hike you might like to have a picnic on the beach. There is a small beachfront parking lot after you drive through the campground.
